Amanda gives it away in April 2006

This is Maxwell Shando, his wife Nomsa and their 4 year old daughter. They live in Alex and support themselves by collecting scrap metal. He has matric and cannot get a job. His wife has a std 7 and also cannot get a job. He is 28, she is 20. I can’t remember the name of their daughter.

I was doing a story on illegal dumping in Corlett Drive when I saw them coming down the road. As luck would have it, I had the money on me, the first time since DOM. I gave her the money and suggested they sort themselves out for the winter. Her eyes were big. She cried. I cried. The little girl waved at me. He shook my hand and said thank you. I left them counting the money and went on with my story.
